Ingredients

  • •2 cups jowar flour (sorghum)
  • •Hot water as needed
  • •¼ tsp salt

Method

  1. 1

Add salt to the jowar flour and gradually mix in hot water. Knead a soft dough.

  2. 2

Cover and rest 5 min. Divide into balls.

  3. 3

Pat each ball between palms (or on a greased plastic sheet) into a thin round. Jowar does not roll like wheat.

  4. 4

Place on a hot tawa. When the surface changes colour, flip.

  5. 5

Puff lightly on open flame or press with a cloth on the tawa.

  6. 6

Serve immediately with dal or sabzi.

Dietitian's tip

Jowar roti must be eaten hot — it hardens on cooling. Low-glycaemic, perfect for diabetes-friendly plans.
